I went to see the Lion King in Charlotte, North Carolina and it was BORING! The acting was stiff and unbelievable, the dancers were not even close to being together and the singers were pushing the tempos. When I first saw this show it brought tears to my eyes with how beautiful and engaging it was. Now it looks like it has been left to fend for itself on the road with no director in place to give the show any sense of excitement or of how epic it can be. Except for a few key actors, Pumbaa, Zazu, Simba and Sarabi, the rest of the cast didn't quite cut it. I don't blame them though, just the director or lack of one. It seemed like it could've been fixed if someone was there watching the show and giving a few well communicated notes. Oh well, entropy is a rule of the universe and goes for Broadway shows too. Too bad, this used to be one of my favorite shows in theater. Now it just seems like a money making machine pumped out to middle America who Disney thinks won't know the difference.
