Wicked Reclaims Top Honors in Theater and Overall Sales
CHICAGO, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- As the Major League Baseball All-Star Game approaches next week, and the stretch drive toward the playoffs begins, it continues to be apparent that baseball fans are flocking to the ballpark. Five of the top ten spots in overall ticket sales on the TicketsNow Entertainment Index were occupied by (in order) the New York Yankees (2), Chicago Cubs (3), Boston Red Sox (4), St. Louis Cardinals (5) and Chicago White Sox (7). The only show capable of knocking off the teams was Wicked, which reclaimed its spot as the number one ticket seller in all categories. The remaining top ten included American Idols Live (6), Tim McGraw (8), Barbara Streisand (9) and Kenny Chesney (10).

Although the Chicago Cubs are having a difficult season, Cubs fans still enjoy a day in the bleachers at Wrigley Field and are dreaming of a second half rally. Cubs tickets have remained consistently hot this season and June was no different, with a second place (9.91%) finish in the sports index. The top spot on the sports index however, belonged to the New York Yankees. The Yankees owned the number one spot this month with 11.17% of sales. Finishing off the top five were the Red Sox with 8.13%, the Cardinals with 5.31% and the White Sox with 4.68%.

"With the upcoming baseball All-Star game, and the playoff races heating up, baseball will continue to be a hot ticket," says Kenneth Dotson, Chief Marketing Officer for TicketsNow. "Also impressive is Wicked's staying power. It has been in the number one spot for much of the last year and not even the excitement of summer baseball can overtake this popular show."

Wicked bounced back and reclaimed its number one spot this month with 5.62% of overall sales on the TicketsNow Entertainment Index. The theatrical musical about the untold story of the witches of Oz was dethroned from its top spot last month by The American Idols Live Tour. The show has already proven to be the hottest overall ticket this past spring and will likely continue its strong sales throughout the summer months. The show dominated this month's theater index with 34.39% of ticket sales, Jersey Boys came in a distant second with 10.71% of sales, Monty Python Spamalot was third with 6.58% of sales, the Lion King was fourth with 6.23% of sales and Tarzan rounded out the top five with 4.55% of sales.

The American Idols Live Tour fell from its top overall spot this month, but still claimed the number one spot in the concert category with 7.48% of sales. Tim McGraw and Barbra Streisand were a close second and third this month with McGraw edging out the long time female vocalist with 5.97% of sales to her 5.93% of sales. The final two spots belonged to Kenny Chesney, 5.14% and Dave Mathews Band 4.83%.
