Currently in Florida, selling a ticket for more than $1 over the face value could get you in trouble with the law. However, earlier this month, Gov. Jeb Bush signed a bill that takes effect July 1st and does away with the $1 limit.
Florida lawmakers passed the bill after internet ticket auction site Stubhub argued that Floridians didn't have the same resale rights people from other states do.
Because selling tickets direct for most events limit ticket sales per customer, StubHub's lobbyist Nick Iarossi says there should be a large inventory of face-value tickets available when they first go on sale.
“These tickets are getting bought up in large blocks for hot events and then being resold at a much higher price than face value. So what this will do is it'll make available more tickets at the initial sale at face value.”
The scalping bill's backers originally asked the legislature to set a 25 percent limit on resale ticket increases, but lawmakers ultimately decided to scrap the limits altogether.
